Mid-April means that we're only a few weeks away from Mother's Day, which lands on May 10 this year. It's not too early to start coming up with some wonderful Mother's Day gift ideas.
This is a lovely holiday for reminding your mom just how special she is to you. Your wedding is another excellent opportunity to show parents some extra love. Here are a few wedding planning ideas for honoring that special lady on your special day, whether she be the mother of the bride, mother of the groom, a step-mother, grandmother, or favorite aunt.
Include Her
Some brides don't mind letting Mom plan lots of wedding details, but if that's not you, try to find at least one place where you can ask for her input. She'll feel included, but you aren't giving up control of the entire affair.
If you don't necessarily need the extra advice, include her in other ways instead. An invitation to come along wedding dress shopping is one way or you could invite Mom or Grandma to join you and your bridesmaids for a spa day or luncheon before the wedding.
Incorporate Her Gown
Wearing your mother's wedding dress is a wonderful way to pay homage to her, but that isn't always possible. If you prefer to buy your own gown, you may be able to incorporate a part of Mom's wedding day look into yours.
Wear the veil or jewelry from her special day, for example, or have a handkerchief made from a swatch of her gown. If her gown is not available to use, possibly buy new matching wedding jewelry or handkerchiefs for the two of you to wear on your wedding day.
Say Cheese
A mother/daughter or mother/son photo is a must while you are taking wedding photographs, but you can go beyond the regular posed pictures. Recreate a pretty photo from her wedding album or recreate a picture of the two of you from your childhood. You could even do a "first look" with your parents just like with your soon-to-be-spouse.
Say a Public "Thank You!"
Saying thank you to the woman who helped you get to where you are today is a no-brainer, but doing it in front of all of your guests will happily surprise her. Write something heartfelt in the wedding program or make a special toast just for her at the reception. You can even make her feel like royalty with a "Mother of the Bride" sign on her chair at dinner.
Sentimental Keepsakes
A thank you gift is always an excellent idea too, especially if you make it something sentimental between the two of you. It could be a beautiful piece of jewelry like we mentioned earlier or possibly a gorgeous photo frame to hold that special picture you took together at the wedding.
